Viana Seitan is made according to a traditional recipe and distinguishes itself by its hearty taste and diverse uses.

Seitan is believed to have originated in China, where Buddhists were seeking an altenative to meat. They found that if you rinsed a strong ball of dough eventually the starch would wash out leaving behind the protein. Eventually they developed a variety of methods to produce mock meats. In a futher development in Japan the method for making seitan where wheat gluten is stewed in a tasty broth was perfected.

Vian's seitan has a delicious rich flavour and a nice texture. It can be sliced very thinly and diced finely if required.

It is perfect uncooked for thinly sliced colt cuts for sandwiches and can be cut or diced for stir fries, casseroles, pies, etc. wherever a recipe might usually include meat.

Wheat protein, wholemeal wheat flour, soy sauce (water, soybeans*, wheat*), spices, sea salt.
