This recipe is so easy and quick to make and you only need some simple ingredients. You'll be stuffing your face in no time. It also demonstrates the versatility of a product such as Redwood Cheatin' Roast Beef or Turkey which can be used for much more than Sunday roast dinners! These instructions are for four servings.Ingredients: | • | Half a 'Redwood Cheatin' Roast Beef' style joint | | • | Pitta breads (4 normal size) | | • | Half an onion, finely sliced | | • | Shredded cabbage - about a handful. | | • | Crispy mixed salad (or just a sliced lettuce) | | • | Houmous | | • | Pickled Peppers |
In this recipe getting your pitta breads ready is the most important thing, because cooking the sliced Redwood Cheatin' Roast Beef takes just a few minutes. Step 1 Take one Redwood Cheatin' Roast Beef and cut it in half. Wrap the half you are not using in clingfilm and put in the fridge or freezer.
Lay the half Redwood Cheatin' Roast Beef on its flat side and slice down to make around 16 slices (4 per pitta, although if you want to make them thinner you can). Step 2 Gently warm the pitta breads in an oven or dry pan.
Slice open and spread the inside with houmous. This will help everything stock together later, and it tastes good! Begin by putting in some salad. Set pittas aside. Step 3 Heat some oil in a pan and add the sliced Redwood Roast slices and allow them to brown. You may add some spices to the slices if you feel like it.
When they are browned they are ready to insert into the pittas, you can probably get about 4 slices in each one. Do this quickly so they don't cool! Step 4 Add the sliced onion and cabbage on top and you're nearly done...
Add more salad if you like and don't forget your pickled pepper! "D'ya want sauce wiv that mate?" Yes! If you are feeling like having a complete blow out try some GranoVita Mayola Vegan Mayonnaise, lovely and cool in the mix. Some more tips for great results! Tip#1: To avoid making pittas brittle, slightly dampen the outside of the pitta with wet hands. This prevents them from simply toasting and becoming fragile. Tip#2: When slicing open, cut down the side and if you feel the knife get stuck push towards the most browned side of the pita - it will be the strongest of the two sides and the knife is less likely to tear through. Tip#3: As you eat the onion in the kebabs raw in this recipe, try using a sweet red onion rather than the more pungent white onions. Your breath wont smell so much in the morning!! |
