We send chilled products with special chilled gel packs and biodegradable insulating wrap that can keep them below 5oC for over 30 hours. However, these products can all safely spend some time without refrigeration at all if still wrapped in their original packaging. The products that we send in the post are in fact commonly sent in this way in the US and Europe, where it has not been proven to be problem. We strongly recommend that you transfer your chilled products straight to your fridge and consume them within a few days. If you choose to freeze the products you can extend the time that they can be stored – again you should do this immediately. Then when you want to use them, defrost and consume immediately and do not re-freeze. The shelf life you see on the packaging is based on the products remaining under 5 degrees until that date so transportation can effectively bring that date forwards. So although the food will be safe to consume when it arrives we would not recommend storing these products for a long period before eating them. A note on Polystyrene We do not use polystyrene boxes because they contribute to the several thousand tonnes of polystyrene that goes into British landfills each year and produce environmentally hazardous waste, which is why some forward thinking cities and countries (like Taiwan) have banned its use.
