Chicken Style Pastry Plait This is a delicious and simple dish to make which you can serve hot or cold, and makes a great centrepiece for family meals. Ingredients
| • | 1 packet of Granose Chicken Style Roast mix | | • | 1 pack of puff pastry | | • | Half an onion, finely sliced | | • | A little soya milk to glaze. | | • | Any other items you would like to add to the mix for flavour (here we use some olives).
| | • | A baking tray - ideally non stick.
|
Step 1 Mix the Granose Chicken Style Roast according to the instructions on the pack.
Step 2 Dust down your work surface with a little flour, then, roll out the puff pastry into a square.
Step 3 Add the contents of your mixing bowl to the central third of the square of rolled pastry. So all down the middle, leaving roughly a third on each side uncovered. Step 4 Cut the pastry from the centre outwards to make arms. You can also cut away the corners which will make it easier to plait.
In our photo you can see that we have decided to top our Chicken Style Roast mix with sliced green olives and rosemary. Step 5 Fold the end pieces of your pastry over the top and begin plaiting the pastry.
Simply take one of the arms and fold it over, then take one from the other side and fold that over.
Repeat until you have plaited all the way down.
Step 6 Lift gently with a spatula and transfer to you paking tray (it helps if you have already covered this in margerine, butter or other type of fat).
You can lightly glaze with soya milk to get a more golden brown effect, and if you do this then any black pepper or other seasoning you add will stick. Step 7 Cook in a pre-heated oven at Gas Mark 7 (218°C / 425°F) for around 25-30 minutes. You may find that this differs from oven to oven, so adjust accordingly. Its pretty easy - when it is puffed and golden it is ready!
Step 8 Serve! This dish is a nice one to slice up at the table an to share out at family meals or dinner with friends. If you serve it on a platter you can surround with roast potatoes and other veg for a centrepiece. |
